Mac Mini M1 KVM USB volume won't work, but works on PC

I have a PC work computer and a Mac Mini M1 for photo editing. I'm also using a SteelSeries Apex keyboard with volume control. My KVM switch uses USB audio from both the PC and Mac to go to a little amp.... I am able to control volume on my PC, but NOT on my Mac. Really strange how one works and the other does not.

I understand that USB is a digital source, but why does it work on the PC?

Lastly, I heard that SoundFlower could fix this on the Mac but it's not available on the M1. Any suggestions?

I figured this was another one of those huge Mac quirks that Mac people are blinded to. So basically, you can't use a Mac in a dual-computer system with a KVM switch at all and get proper functionality, especially with a proper gaming keybaord.

Keyboard volume control keys don't work with sound output from usb or optical connections in mac. I use 'Sound Control' to be able to control the volume using key board keys. There are few other similar third party apps. Of course I use regular apple keyboard and don't know about gaming keyboards

Thanks, unfortunately it doesn't look like that works with Big Sur yet. I've emailed them for detailed info though.

Which KVM do you use? I try now switcher from Ugreen and my M1 air doesn't work with it. Tried different cables, additional power, but KVM stay turned off. With my PC it works fine.
