Hello,

I have new M1 Mac Mini - standard, that started to crash on me frequently.
Screen freezes, turns pink and mac mini restarts to login screen.

What is wrong?

In crash reports shows up "coreaudiod"...

What can be done to fix this?
Should I return mac?

Thanks,
n.

I have the exact same problem. It crashed like this twice so far while watching a movie in VLC player, and at least 1 more time while it was asleep. In my opinion it's not likely a hardware problem, rather it's more likely a bug like they always seem to have with new hardware and software.

Sure, go ahead and call Apple support. They will waste a few hours of your time trying useless solutions and maybe even reinstalling the OS. Then after it keeps happening over the next few weeks if you have the patience to keep at it with them, they will escalate your case to someone who knows how to take crash logs and then waste some more of your time on that. Eventually, they will fix the problem like in 6-12 months after enough people complain and their engineers finally wake up.

You can also keep sending the crash reports to Apple each time it asks, which might speed things along... Meanwhile we are their guinea pigs. I hate buying brand new Mac models for this reason.

Hi All,

The issue:
I think I may have found the cause of my M1 MBA crashing the same way as the OP described.

My MBA would crash every few days. Only thing doing lately was literally having you tube on, playing music.

I noticed though, that in the DOCK was the icon for ADGUARD, the ad blocker thing I installed onto Safari.

The fix
I turn't off ADGUARD.

Straight away, Safari was responding a lot quicker, especially scrolling down! :)

Did not have a pink screen reboot issue for a while.

The crashing happened again though - I found that the ADGUARD was turned on again.

I've finally gone into the ADGUARD settings - and found the option "turn on when Safari is opened". I turn't this off.

I'll give it a week and see if ADGUARD is definitely the reason. If it is, I'll work out then how to uninstall.

Hope that help you guys! :)

Hi,
I'm using Adguard for Mac.
I had the same issue, but after uninstalling Adguard I haven't had any issues so far.
Test if problems continue to occur.

Hi comset,

Hey, somebody else with the same problem! :)

I’m glad you got it sorted

Regards Martin

About one week ago I updated "adblock for safari" to the latest version and I disabled "DDC/CI" on my dell monitor and I have not experienced any more "pink screen crash" since. Before this change, the crash happened two times a week. Worth a try. I'm running macos 11.2.2.

Thanks for the tip but disabling DDC/CI on my 4K ViewSonic didn't stop the "pink screen" crashes on my Mac mini M1 (os v11.3.1). Disappointing.

Can anyone report if 11.4 either fixed it or the freeze still happens?

i have the same problem with my mac mini m1 512ssd 16gb ram.
This proble shows when i unlock my mac with apple watch, i see the screen pink and the mac restart all in kernel panic.
Apple care don't find any solution, only i can i have done is the reset with power button 10 sec.
The care sostain that is a software problem, possibly reinstall the last version about big sure.
I'm very hungry...

Can anyone report if 11.4 either fixed it or the freeze still happens?
They didn't fix it. I'm on 11.4 and, with only 6 days of use, the macbook pro m1 had this pink screen crash.

I was using a Baseus usb-c hub at the moment of the crash, but I don't think that was the cause, because they supposedly fixed the Usb hub's problems at 11.2

Hope they fix it, its kinda unacceptable to have random crashes on "high end" laptops

It’s still happening to me after 11.4 update, crashed just like you mentioned twice this week. With a total of 5-6 crashes and I’ve had the computer maybe 6months. I use a pretty decent Vava hub that I use mainly for HDMI to connect my monitor and for my external hard drives. I think it may be crashing due to my external hard drive, it usually gets stuck on a restarting loop with the pink screen until I unplug my hard drive and do a hard reset then it stops. I’ve had to erase and repair my drive 3 times because of this. I know it’s new technology, but I’ve seen so many posts about people with various M1 laptops, it’s happening accross the board, and as far as I can tell, the problem has not been fixed. So it’s huge bummer spending that kind of money on a laptop, expecting to have a reliable computer in return.

Had same issue. Do not put external Mecahnical HDD in usb hub. Run direct off USB port on back MM no issues.
Mouse keyboard / Blueray Writer / SSD off hub no issues. Connect external HDD ( Non SSD Segate 4TB)- Issue repeatable.

HDD has external power supply.

With an Seagate 3.5" 4TB (Model: SRD00F2, PN: 1D7AD8-500 4TB) external HDD I have similar problems if I connect them on USB-A or USB-C (with original Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter) direct on my M1 MacMini. Only with Belkin USB2 4 Port Hub it works.

Ive had all these issues too. Apple care was no use. But its happened a lot less with each macOS patch update so i dont think its defective hardware. I did go thru my launch dameons and removed some I felt where unessessary and felt it crashed less. Actually now it doesn’t actualy crash and restart. The display will turn on and off a few times and then its fine. I think its some kind of work around apple added in the updates to prevent a full on restart.
