Hello everyone
i have a Mac Mini M2 and DELL P2422h, does anyone has problem with the display?
It shows horizontal white lines on the screen. This doesn't happen all the time.
Dell told me it's a problem with the Mac, as it doesn't occur in Windows.
What i have tried until now, i updated the dell drivers(via windows) , i tried 3 different hdmi cables and i connected the display to a windows laptop and there was no problem

I recommend using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable adapter, as HDMI ports on Apple Silicon Macs tend to perform poorly.

While it might be an issue with my monitor, every HDMI cable I tested only output YPbPr at 8-bit. In contrast, USB-C to DisplayPort consistently provides solid RGB at 10-bit.

After testing multiple brands of cables and adapters with my M4 Mac Mini and Dell U2713H monitor, the best results came from an Amazon Basics bidirectional USB-C to DisplayPort cable. Unidirectional cables often had problems with power-saving functionality.

from apple told me that the display must be 4k to be supported from mini m2... my display is 1920x1080 at 60hz...
is this the problem or with a usb c to display port i will solve the problem?

What Apple told you about requiring an 4k display, is wrong.

You have only tried connecting via HDMI, is that correct?

It looks like this display has these inputs:
- displayport
- VGA
- HDMI

I'd suggest you try a USBc (Mac end) to displayport (display end) cable.

But I watched your video and the "white lines" don't actually seem to be "lines".

Rather, when you click on that icon in the dock, another window VERY briefly appears and disappears again (before the second window opens and stays open).

That's what I see. It -might- have something to do with your dock settings.

I'm thinking that changing the connecting cable may not "fix" this.

You might consider trying USBc-to-displayport anyway...

Yes, only hdmi i tried... I am waiting to try hdmi to DP if that solve the problem...

About the line, if it was dock problem it would it every time... When these lines appears, the only solution is to export the hdmi(either desktop, either mac) and import again the cable to solve it until next time

It could be due to a faulty HDMI port. If you can order a USB-C to Thunderbolt cable and return it if it doesn’t work as expected, you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

Why are you so insistent on using HDMI? As others have said, HDMI on the mac can be problematic. Get a USB-C/Thunderbolt to Display Port cable.

HDMI to DisplayPort cables require external power, usually supplied through a USB-A socket.
They didn’t work for me. Even when using the DisplayPort input on my display, I only got YPbPr output unless I manually enabled RGB using BetterDisplay.

Get a cheap bidirectional USB-C to DisplayPort like the Amazon Basics I mentioned above.

I agree with the others. Use USB-C to DisplayPort. I have an M4 Mini I did HDMI to a Dell monitor (1440p one). It was fine but had some wake from sleep issues. USB-C to DP solved that issue and also allows me to run variable refresh rates.

A big reason for being "insistent on using HDMI" is because using HDMI means other ports remain open for other usages. Also [while still under warranty] the OP needs to know if his Mac is somehow defective.

IMO the issue most likely derives from lower resolution 1080p displays presenting as substandard on Macs. 4K displays and better are recommended. I would wager that the Mac's HDMI port will drive the superior 4K displays just fine when used with good cables.

IMHO and experience, HDMI to DP is not the solution. USC-C to DP is way more solid with Apple Silicon Macs.

I would like to thank you all for the answers!!
First of all i insist on hdmi in order to have free type c port and in order to learn if there is a faulty hdmi port(still on warranty).

Also I will try with a type c hub to hdmi i have(if it works)..
The cable hasn't arrived yet.

In addition in Greece isnt easy to buy a cable and if you dont like it to return it and get a refund.
Hope to find a solution and i will inform you when i have news!!

But m1 mini and m2 mini and even the new m4 minis don't have a display port anymore.

That's why we recommended a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.
Wait you mean the monitor has display port? I thought display port was only on the computer not the monitor? I have never seen a display port on a monitor before except an iMac which is not a monitor.

From wikipedia:

DisplayPort (DP) is a proprietary[a] digital display interface developed by a consortium of PC and chip manufacturers and standardized by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). It is primarily used to connect a video source to a display device such as a computer monitor. It can also carry audio, USB, and other forms of data.

To my knowledge, most mid-range computer monitors feature at least one DisplayPort socket.

(BTW, I just discovered that posting an amazon link seems to bring in that little blurb about "amazon associate". I AM NOT an "amazon associate" -- just copied and pasted the link -- MR administration, can you do anything about this?)
