It will work. Will “image” be fine? Only you can say.

I have an M4 mini that is primarily used as a media server. Connected an old, cheap Vizio 24" screen to the HDMI port. Works fine and I was actually surprised by how good it looked.

Thanks very very much for reply. So, the full hd resolution will not affect user experience.

I would not make any generalizations about "user experiences" - that is really more about what you expect and what you need. But if you have used other computers with that same HD monitor and been happy, I don't see why you wouldn't feel the same about the m4 Mini.

I got a Mini M4 recently and it works fine with a HD (1920x1080) monitor. I have two Dell S2340L 23" monitors that were previously connected to a Mac Mini 2011. Now I temporarily have each Mini connected to a single monitor and they look almost identical, except for minor differences due to the difference MacOS color schemes. Text is sharp enough at my viewing distance 18" (46cm).

My plan is to use the Mini M4 with the pair of HD monitors, and use the old 2011 Mini with a TV or a spare 24" HD monitor.

HD is still good enough for me, although it's not as sharp as something like the 4K display in the latest iMac. However if I saw a good deal on a pair of 4K monitors I would consider upgrading.

Not sure what you mean by "fine", but M4 mini can handle multiple 4k monitors at once with 60Hz. Check its specifications Apple provides:
'''
Simultaneously supports up to three displays:
  • Up to three displays: Two displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one display with up to 5K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt or 4K resolution at 60Hz over HDMI
  • Up to two displays: One display with up to 5K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one display with up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at 240Hz over Thunderbolt or HDMI
more info on Apple page ...
'''

Therefore, single HD monitor will be easy. Times where normal human setup was limited in number of displays and their resolutions ended around m2, I think. Connecting $600 mini to multiple 5-6k displays is kind of crazy idea ;-)

Now, if your question is about color balance, it more depends on monitor and if macOS has description file for that monitor. Or if you know how to calibrate it.
For the sharpest image, you should use 4k monitor and set the resolution to HD, then each HD pixel is exactly 2x2 4k pixels and you get the sharpest image. Other resolutions system has to split pixels and that will not looks as good, typically.

Some people noted, that same monitor connected through different ports (USBC or HDMI) may look different. Explenation gets complicated, but it is worth trying.
