I have a new Mac mini M4, Set up last week, I am running MacOs 26 public beta, I have noticed it running hot, see pick. it up am running one monitor and my space is air conditioned and at 70 degrees, the unit is installed vertically in a Minisopuru vertical dock. I run iStatistica Pro and have been monitoring the temps, among others and noticed it staying around 160F which I do not consider hot, today I had cores running 195f which to me is hot, yesterday I installed a fan with my set up to assist in ventilating het from my set up and when I checked to well below is screenshot of both sensors temp and CPU load at same time. I am new to Apple silicon but definitely not new to Apple, still run the MacBook Pro I bought new in 2020 and it never reaches these temperatur

Have you considered NOT running a public beta until you've had enough time to establish baseline operation issues on your new machine?

I have been a public beta tester for years, I installed right off the bat. I wanted clean install to better work with Beta, I am not casual user, I actually dive into Os to look for issues. but restarting did bring temps down to where is normal, at least so far but have to figure out what caused temps tp rise. That is not normal behavior for not stressing CPU. I'm currently diving into systems activity. which is really fun.

If you want to look into beta OS inefficiencies (and report them to Apple) that’s fine. Although, according to that screenshot, CPU load isn’t generally very high.

Regarding temperatures, Apple (seemingly) favors silent operation and allows the processors to ramp up to ~220ºF before any aggressive (i.e., increase fan speed to an audible level) cooling is applied.

With that said, different products have different advantages (of course). Even though the Mac mini is very capable, the Mac Studio, for example, is designed to better handle heavier, longer workloads.

thank you for the reply, especially the 220f part, I was curious about that with the fan being at idle at 190f.
I run my Mac mini along side my MacBook Pro and they work great for what I do.

You may have caught the system indexing / updating in the background. Have you monitored the system at rest for a few hours? I know after doing updates it takes me a day to get everything settled down and back to normal. I'm seeing an avg. temp of 98 - 115 F on my MINI M4. (its sitting on its side so I can reach the on/off button :))

And yet you still decided to install it on a new-to-you computer with nary a baseline to test it against?
