I've been keeping my eye on the refurbished Mac Store for a while but I haven't seen a Mac mini on there, do they ever go on sale?

Yes, they do but they sell out pretty quickly, sometimes within hours. There was a big restock of them in the US Refurb Store last week. Best thing to do is bookmark the Mac Mini page and check back often. Can't hurt to check daily.

Yes, they do. I own one.

COVID-19 shelter-in-place/work-from-home policies have helped deplete much of the inventory of certain computing items. Webcams are an obvious one but things like value-priced desktop PCs are another.

Macs comprise less than 10% of the world's PCs and something like >85% of all Macs sold are notebook models. Amongst the Mac desktops, the iMac is the most popular. The actual number of Mac mini units sold is very small and the number of refurbished units is even smaller.

If you see a Mac mini on the Apple refurb site in your desired configuration, be ready with your credit card because it will not linger.

There was literally one on Apple’s site earlier today and was equipped exactly how I’d want it:
i7, 8gb RAM (cheaper to upgrade on your own), 1TB hard drive, upgraded Ethernet.

List price new is $1,600, the refurb price was $1300 something. Checked just now and it’s no longer on their site

OP:

- You need to check the refurbished store 3 or 4 times every day (morning, noon, evening, night).
- When refurbished items appear, you need to check them carefully (to make sure the configuration you're looking for is offered).
- When you find the one you want, you must be prepared to buy IMMEDIATELY (because in the span of a few hours, or less, it will be gone).

Yes, personally check frequently, and I also use, as a backup, https://refurb-tracker.com/
I narrowly set my search parameters to what I want, and it emails me when the refurb(s) I want are stock, and I have the notice go to an email that gives me an instant alert on my iPhone.
I still check personally several times a day when I am on the "hunt"

Also keep in mind the 2020 Mac Minis are in the refurb store these days. If it's anything like how they're stocking Macbook Airs, there's a mix of 2018 and 2020 so be sure to check which release year it is if you have a preference.

+1 on using Refurb Tracker. That’s how I snagged the config I wanted. Ten minutes after I received the email and placed my order, they were out of stock of the config I ordered.

I have a 2012 (also refurb) and decided it was time to upgrade.

I just noticed that, I signed up and they had the config I wanted, but only saw the email an hour later and they were already out. Gotta move quick.

Very quick. I just happened to see the email on Monday and was able to make a quick enough decision while it remained in stock. It helped that I had just read that Big Sur wouldn’t be supported on my 2012.

Coincidentally, FedEx just dropped it off a few minutes ago, so it’s sitting next to me in the box.
