Ok so... I have a large media collection for itunes and appleTV... 6 months ago I bought a Drobo and have used 2.5TB for music, videos, pictures, etc. I stream everything from my imac to my appleTV and MBP... so right now my imac is essentially a make-shift server right? Would it be better to use a Mac Mini Server with my Drobo attached to it or is this overkill?

My freelance career is starting to move from print to web... so a server may help in this respect... or would I be better off just saving my money and buying a Mac Pro when they are updated again?

Thanks for any help here...

If you seriously need to run server, you can run it with your current machine with VMware Fusion installed. You can easily run server within your Mac. I have 1 Mac Server and 1 Windows 7 concurrently running in my Macbook Pro with 4 GB of memory. It's not the fastest thing ever but it serves what I need.

The Mac mini server seems like a pretty good option for the price. The storage may not be good for lots of video, but for most other things the dual 500 megs of hard drive space is great.

For a server with moderate power, but a very small footprint, this thing seems OK for most of us. I like the idea.
