My son unfortunately did a system update last night from 13.6 to 14.1.1 on our Mac Mini Intel.
During the update at some point it asked to update the opencore patcher (which is running on a USB stick since fusion drive does not seem to allow it to be placed on the HDD/SSD) to 1.0 (i THINK it might have been on 0.6 or 0.8? not sure), which he did. after the restart the system seemed to move along with the macOS update but got stuck on a warm mac mini with 1/3 of the progress bar filled, but not moving at all since.

restarting did not help.
runnig first aid did find a mismatch in file size, corrected it but on another check it still was there, could again be repaired but seemes not to.
it gets stuck on the same spot over and over.

I am not looking to find a way to finde the problem and get it moving again.

on the opencore legacy patcher page there is a help regarding stuck on boot, with me removing some kexts. I did not do that yet since I was not JUST booting, but rather updating and booting.

So MAYBE some is or war in the same spot as I am right now and has an idea where to look (and whom to blame)? ;)
looking forward to your ideas and questions.

I'd boot to internet recovery,
Erase the internal drive,
And then install the last Apple-supported OS that works,
Restore from my backup...
...And forget about that "open core" stuff for now.

:)

That would leave me with a working mac, probably (though the photos etc are on the newest version, I don't know if they can be reverted back)... BUT: there is no backup atm. there will be, but synology has been troubling us with constant not being able to backup on it.

So I am rather looking for a way to leave my data in working condition (and would want to use OCLP very much) as it has been working flawlessly since yesterday.

Hi there,

I'm in a similar situation as @thalternate . Updated my 2012 Mac mini from macOS 14.0 to 14.1.1 with OCLP 1.2.1 and gut stuck on reboot.

The status bar progresses about a third of the way, but no further.

Can't boot into safe mode (as suggested in this video) and not reinstall Sonoma when booting from a USB drive either, because of insufficient harddrive space.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :).
