I need to test this for longer, but just wanted to pass this along in case it helps others. This new mini is less than a month old, however the one point I have found a bit concerning is that it did seem to become terribly hot at times and not just the listed CPU temperature under load. The case itself could be uncomfortably hot to the touch and I've read a lot of comments in this regard, particularly with the i7.
When I bought the mini I picked up a new Tecknet mouse, which was the same model as one I have used for about a year on the old Mac Pro. Something I noticed early on was that scrolling in Safari felt much more jumpy on the mini and it had a tendency to jump back after stopping. I thought it might be some dust on the sensor or just some kind of bug in Catalina. This morning it became irritating, so I looked at possible settings that might be at fault with no luck.
Eventually I figured I should try with the old mouse and everything was suddenly fine with smooth scrolling and generally better, so I put the new problem mouse away. Over the last few hours the mini has been running considerably cooler. Yes the CPU temperatures rise under load like a video export, however it seems a bit more controlled and the case itself is never really that hot now, so I can't help thinking the other mouse was somehow causing temperatures to rise higher than they should.
