So I'm contemplating the purchase of a Mac Mini. However one of the things I would like to be able to do with it is play my classic... between five to twenty year old... PC games. Windows 7 has a lot of compatibility issues with these old titles, so I figured I would run an old copy of XP. I know BootCamp no longer supports XP, but I'm wondering if I can still get good enough performance out of a Virtual Machine?

I've managed to get some of my old games to run quite well in a Windows 98 virtual machine, when I had a Vista laptop a few years ago. I was impressed that I managed to get Final Fantasy VIII to work well under a VM.

In the end, I just acquired old computers from friends I have them dedicated to running Windows 98/XP to play my old games on. It reduces much of the headaches of faffing about with some games not working under a VM or compatibility mode in Windows 7.
