I have a customer who edits 1080p video in premiere pro on a trashcan mac pro, which has died. He has ordered a 6 core mac mini with 16gb ram. He will get an external usbc ssd for extra storage. He has already ordered it so no he is not waiting for arm.
So my question is: How does the mac mini go editing video in premiere ?

The integrated GPU is not really for that type of work, but the T2 chip does a fair amount of video heavy lifting, and the 6-core 3.0 i5 in the MM is slightly better in geekbench scores than the 6-core 3.5 Xeon in the TMP.

The customer may find it good enough, but if not they can invest in an external Thunderbolt GPU if he wants to further accelerate it later on.

Thats what I thought, and when I questioned him again he said he was likely to use final cut instead of premiere, which from my reading works better on the mini without a dedicated gpu, as i think it uses the processor or the t2 chip more. Anyways he is doing 1080p , not 4k.
