Mac mouse jumping

Dear members, what causes the mac mouse curser to suddenly jump across the screen?

Certain programs, when they launch or quit, save/restore the mouse cursor's position. This can cause unexpected cursor jumping. CrossOver is an example of a program that does this.

Can this be corrected?

Is this only when Quicktime or iTunes is running?

This happens on my mac at work and it is frustrating as hell. I would love to learn of a solution to this problem.

pretty sure its just when an optical mouse goes over cracks/dirt on your desk. best way to fix this is buy a mouse pad or buy a laser mouse which doesnt do this.
