This gray bar is on my desktop, it showed up after a restart and stays on top of all my other windows. I opened force quit dialogue and and closed anything that looked out of place, still nothing.

I don't recognize it but if there's nothing in your System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items see if you can find a clue in these folders:

  • ~/Library/LaunchAgents
  • /Library/LaunchAgents
  • /Library/LaunchDaemons
  • /System/Library/LaunchAgents
  • /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
