...is it possible to have two seperate finder windows open? Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Q

If you're not using the cmd-n method, but rather double clicking the icon on your desktop, make sure the other Finder window is on a different page to the HD icon. Otherwise nothing new will pop-up. Also, clicking the Finder icon in the dock will only bring Finder windows forward. It won't create a new one.

If you mean how to open a new finder window with a new folder, then go to the general tab in the folder preferences and check "Always open folders in new windows."
