So I didn't see any threads about this particular issue here so this might be something kind-of new...

It's no secret that MacOS Ventura still has a bug where the Apple Watch unlock just refuses to stay enabled. Restarting my Mac a dozen times and restarting my Apple Watch an equal amount of times either works or it doesn't for whatever reason. But I just noticed that at the same time that issue flares up, I'm unable to send SMS messages on my Mac.

It's like my Mac just loses all connectivity to my Apple Watch and iPhone and doesn't see them at all.

I've done airplane mode on all three devices. Restarted all of them numerous times. Triple checked that they are all on the same wifi network but nothing works and I'm honestly stumped.

The weirder part is that sometimes, things will just magically turn back on, work correctly and have no issues but I haven't been able to find a pattern or the thing that makes it all work all of the sudden.

I have noticed the same problem. It worked with the final version of Ventura once I enabled it on my AWU2 as soon as I sat down in front of my Mac Studio I would have a unlocked by Apple Watch notice. But it no longer works since I loaded macOS 14.0 I have checked the settings and they are all as they are supposed to be. The AWU2 has watchOS 10 installed. I don't see any such setting on the AW itself, and the only related function the AW shows in its app is the watch being opened by your iPhone, and in reverse AWU2 unlocks my iPhone just fine, but not the Mac. This is my first AW so I am used to signing into to my Mac but it sure was a nice feature while it was working.

Try this, Systems settings =>Login in Password => Apple Watch => turn it off => restart the Mac => return to the Login password turn the Apple watch sign in back on, you will see a roundel going inside the Apple watch section, next you will be asked for your Mac password with that entered the roundel than changes to the Apple Watch symbol meaning it has reconnected.
