I remember reading that Office 2008 wasn't that good compared to its Windows counterpart. Is there a big difference between the latest two? I have iWork, but thinking of purchasing a copy of Office 2011 for Mac since I've been using MS Office for a much longer period than iWork, and prefer its functionality.

2011 is far superior to 2008, and from my use of it, it seems to have functionality similar to 2007, although I haven't used 2010. Definitely good software, I'd recommend it.

I would agree that 2011 is a huge improvement, and is much more compatible with its Windows counterpart

It is still a resource hog and will beachball you at times, but it seems to be a better product than before

I am less likely to run Office in Fusion now

2011 is definitely better and closer to it's 2007 and 2010 Windows counterparts than to it's 2008 predecessor. The compatibility is really good too but there are some odd quirks occasionally.

If you're definitely planning on getting Mac Office, don't hesitate.

2011 is a big improvement over 2008. Faster and more stable. VBScript support is back, but still no AnalysisToolpak in Excel unfortunately.

It's certainly worthy compared to 2010 for Windows. I've not had any proper dealings with Outlook yet as it doesn't support our work Exchange server (2003).

I have both Office for Mac 2011 and Office 2010 for Windows. I can say that Office 2011 works in a very similar way to how Office 2007/2010 work on Windows, especially with the Ribbon.

I have iWork '09 before getting Office 2011. It's a good suite but I found that compatibility with my already created Office documents was not as good as I needed it to be.

Office 2011 is great, but there is also unnecessary bloatware in it as well.. Just word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook are the basic programs, the rest that comes with it is nothing but bloatware.
