I have a document which I started on a Win machine in Word, using the default Calibri font (Light). Now when i open this in Mac Office, it reverts to a typewriter-style font.

The Calibri font itself exists, and I can type with it, but the 'Light' version does not. Is there any way to add it in?

Thanks

What versions of Office are you using?

I just opened a document from Word 2007 (windows) in Mac Word 2011 and it seems to have brought the Calibri font over with the document.

Looks like Office 2013 uses Calibri Light font buy default which is perhaps Mac word is choking on.

You might try Font Substitution which is in Preferences -> Compatiblity

Calibri is there and works okay, but its the Light variation that isn't featured in the Mac edition, it seems. I have 2011.

I will try the substitution, but I'd like to have 'Light' too since some important documents are in that variation. If not, then I'll have to stick to the standard Calibri.

Yes, buy the Calibri Light font from MS - $35. It's not that you don't have a problem - you just don't have the correct font. The Calibri Light font was included with Win 8.1, not Office.

Either that, or change the font in the document... It's the first default I changed when I started using Office 365...

Maybe that font is not included with Office 365 - but I have Calibri light included in MS Office 2011.
Maybe all you need to do is reinstall your Office 2011

As do I in my 2011 install, however, the OP didn't indicate which Office suite is in use. I just don't like the Light version of the font.

I still have a few laggards in my office running 2004 or 2008; Calibri's font package didn't include "Light" in the 2008 install, and we forked over for a few licenses on those Macs since some of our clients use it...

I just checked with my IT guy - the MS Office 2011 Service Pack 3 v14.3.9 fixed issues with the Calibri Light font not rendering properly. The improper rendering issue is what got me hating on that font in the first place - my IT guy remembers me being quite grumpy back then...

you could just copy the font from the font folder in your Win machine and drag it into font book
