I am currently looking for a laptop which will be able to handle C++ programming, in the UDK engine, gaming with games such as Starcraft 2(preferably on high graphics), as well as djing.
So pretty much a versatile computer.
I've never used a Mac before, and am worried that it will not be able to run the same video games which a Pc would be able to.
the Macbook I have in mind is a MacBook pro 15", without retina.

Well considering that machine can run Windows just fine, I don't think you have much to worry about.

The MacBook Pro you are talking about offers comparable performance to laptops like Lenovo Y580 or Asus N56VZ-DS71. That said, I would actually prefer the Y580 to the MBP if you are going to use Windows anyway. Its cheaper, and has a better screen at a slightly increased weight. Can't comment on the build quality though. I had some experience with the new Lenovo X1 Carbon and that laptop is amazing (however, its also a completely different category); didn't have the chance to hold Y580 in my hands though.

Edit: the MBP is significantly thinner though...
