Mac OS 8.6 USB boot and dual-boot questions

I'll keep it snappy this time.

1) Can you boot Mac OS 8.6 from a USB? I've succeeded with OS 9 before, and OS 8.6 does at least support USB...
2) Can you dual-boot OS 8.6 and OSX 10.4? Perhaps on separate partitions? This must be possible, since some Power Mac G4 could do have both OS's legitimately...

1) 8.6 does not support USB mass storage devices out of the box, you need an update for this. So it won't boot ootb, no idea if it will after the update.
