Is it possible/acceptable/supported in Mac OS (10.6) to mount a second drive as a location, such as /data (versus /Volumes/disk1)? I know this is customary on other flavors of UNIX, but not sure how Mac OS likes to play. Perhaps a link or alias is better?
 
All Volumes that you mount are going to show up in /Volumes, and you can use that path in the command line. For anything else, I'd be more inclined to use sym links.
