Just installed Mac Os Big Sur and lost internet access which seems to be a common problem. Talked to Apple and they are aware of it and here is the fix:

Go into system preference and click on internet.
Highlight your wifi tab and then click on advanced.
On the tabs at the top click on proxies.
When proxies is open uncheck Socks Proxy and confirm your changes.
Sock proxies acts like a VPN and is a glitch in the download which Apple is working on.
Cleared my issues up immediately.

For me, on Big Sur 11.2.3 the first three steps would be:
  • System Preferences > Network
  • Click Advanced
  • Click Proxies Tab
