I just inherited a Powermac G3 450mHz b&w, 192 mb ram. It has tiger on it but it runs
REALLY slow when using more than one app. I have a copy of panther and I was wondering if there would be any kind of speed boost if I dropped it down to that. I want to just be able to run word and simple things like that.
 
Panther might be a bit faster, but I'll bet that upgrading the RAM in your machine would go a long way towards speeding things up.
 
Tiger is actually a bit faster than panther for most things (more optimised). The choke point is going to be only having 192meg ram - you really need 512 or more to run OSX satisfactorily...
