I have been trying to assist a friend with an Apple Mail problem as follows.
A Macbookpro mid 2012 running High Sierra. The mail view panel disappeared both in Classic view and in Three Panel view and could not be restored by click and drag at the edge or bottom in the usual way. The messages can, however, be viewed in separate windows by double clicking the name.
I restarted in safe mode which showed no change. Followed this up with a reinstallation of High Sierra, still no view panel. Upgraded to Catalina and on opening Mail initially in Three Panel view the view panel was there. Since my friend prefers the old Classic view I turned off "show side preview" but there was no view panel in that mode. Turned "show side preview" back on again only to find that the view panel there had disappeared also. We are back to square one.
Suggestions anyone?
