Mac OS X 10.4.10 displays ".app" after applications

Hey everyone,

I just recently upgraded from panther to tiger. I understand finder and how mac applications are folders with a hidden ".app" extension. My problem is that the finder is not hiding the .app extension! Every program in /Applications is showing the ".app" and it's pretty annoying. Anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?

Click on Finder preferences.

Under advanced de-select "show file extensions".

First, try Finder menu -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Show all file extensions (deselect or uncheck).

If that doesn't work, there might be something you need to reset using sudo defaults.
