Hi,

a colleague of mine has an older MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 4.x. She can use the Activity window in Safari to download a YouTube video, but after the download is finished (20MB or 6MB or ...), the downloaded file is called "videoplayback", without the .flv suffix. Even if she appends the .flv suffix, she can't play them back in VLC or SWF + FLV Player.

It's no biggie, as she can use KeepVid, but I was just curious, why it is that way. Does anyone know?
Thanks for any insights.

Try appending ".mp4" instead. See if that works. Mine open in quicktime as .flv or .mp4 depending on the filetype. I noticed a lot of the hidef vids are loaded as .mp4 files. Also, if you ever use snow leopard, you can use Chrome browser with an extension that lets you download various formats like flv, mp4, mp3, etc.. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but I'm already running SL with my three x86 Macs, just my colleague still has Tiger on her Mac. I will give it a try tomorrow.
