Dear everyone,

I really want Pivot. But I have a Mac. So I downloaded Darwine for my PowerPc based Mac. It said I needed X11. I searched the internet for free downloads. I got one. I'm now worried that if I install X11, I may accidentally reinstall the whole computer and potentially lose all my files/apps.

Will I reinstall my computer and lose files/apps if I install X11?

First off, X11 is not generally available for download. The version that is compatible may have shipped with your computer. Of course, you don't say which model Mac or which version MacOS X you are using.

That said, Apple is not your only source of the X Windowing System for MacOS X. Assuming that you have a compatible version, it is an installation. It is not a deletion. X11 should work fine. There is no way that it will take away anything already installed on your computer. Why would you even thing such a thing?

Installing X11 only installs X11. If you install it from the system DVD, make you sure haven't got any other installations checked. Best to also run software update and upgrade to 10.4.11.
