The included FAQ;

1. Can the plugin connect to xxx web email?

The short answer is no.

The long answer is, no. This is because the httpmail plugin relies on a protocol implemented by hotmail. Currently services like Yahoo and Mail.com do not provide the special protocol the plugin requires. It could be possible to write another plugin specifically designed to access these web based email systems, but that is a very big job.

2. How did you do this?

The source code is available at sourceforge.
See http://sourceforge.net/projects/httpmail-plugin/ for more information.

3. Why wont my mail delete from the server?

Messages are not removed from the server when you put them into the trash. For them to be removed from the server you need to use the "Erase Deleted Messages" item from the "Mailbox" menu or press ?K

4. Does using this plugin count as a login to Hotmail?

As far as I have been able to determine this seems to be the case, yes.

I DON'T GET IT

I don't get it, what does this do and how does it work? I just downloaded it but i see no dif, anyone knows? in plain english...that'd be nice

i'm using version 1.30.

in short, it allows you to view email from a Hotmail account (yourname@hotmail.com) in Mail.app, included with Panther.

it's worked good for me so far, alot better being able to see all you emails from one app instead of having to lookup hotmail.com.

but what does this new version bring over 1.30? it was a bit of a pain to get it to install the first time... i'm not sure that i really want to go through all of that again...

how do you use this?

Do you have to log into your hotmail account thru mail? I have another account on mail already how do i check my hotmail account now? this download doesn't come with instructions does it? i guess i like reading the step by step on how to do stuff to be able to understand it on my own...

create a new account in mail.app, and fill in your hotmail info (similar as below but to your own personalization) and the smtp/incoming settings are both hotmail.com and after the account is set up, click on the "get mail" button so it will receive all your hotmail emails in that account (may take a while if u have alot of emails)

the disk image includes a "read me" text document, thats what you use for instructions

Well I have to access it through HTTP :(. And I think it provides free POP as long as you don't have a .com e-mail, which I do.

Works Well

After recently switching to Panther, I've found Mail much more to my liking. I've used Entourage for a long, long time and was tired of it's unnecessary complexity. I don't like all-in-one programs. They're often inflexible and at times, cut corners to work with their different components more effectively. Mac programs integrate without the need for such a gargantuan conglomerate app. The Httpmail plugin works very well. Thanks for the info!
