Hi. I recently found my Leopard Install DVD (upgraded to Snow Leopard) and wondered if I could put it to use. Could I install Leopard on my external hard drive? I could use the large disk space I have on the ext. HDD. Also, would it be possible if I installed Leopard on the HDD and connected it to my PC, and load Leopard on there?

You can install Mac OS X on an external HDD as long as the version you install is the version that came with your Mac or higher.

Also using that external HDD as boot drive for a PC will not work, but you can use MRoogle to find many more threads regarding that issue.

And you don't need an OS installed on the external HDD to use the external HDD for storage.

And the speed of the OS is dependent on the interface you use. USB 2.0 < Firewire 400 < Firewire 800 (30MB/s < 40MB/s < 70MB/s).
