Mac os x lion usb drive.

Apple recently sent me 3 lion recovery drives. I know that the drives have 8gb of storage. But I would like to use one as a personal usb but I have 2 problems. The usb is write protected so how can I remove that. Also when I put the usb drive in my pc or my mac it shows up as a cd. So basically how can I erase all the information off of it so I can use it as a normal usb.

I called them up and told me the one I ordered online was broken so they sent me 3 and I got them the next day.
