Hello all,

I run a network and we have 7 Solaris Sun Blades currently connected to an old Red Hat Linux UNIX box running NIS.

All works fine but I want to loose the Red Hat Linux box as Linux sucks.

I have been trying to replace it with a FreeBSD box but had loads of problems with the Solaris 9 workstation not connecting to FreeBSD NIS, so I abandoned the project.

Basically I need to know if anyone has successfully setup an OS X server running NIS and connecting Solaris workstation to it?

I need an excuse to stick in a MAC server. My boss is easily convinced :D

Cheers,

Rob

I've never used NIS on OS X, but then again, it's been many years since I used NIS. Personally, if youi think a Linux server sucks, you will most likely think OS X Server sucks. I have never had a problem with either one.

I have to ask, "Why are you still running NIS?"

What else can I use insted? I have a Net App NAS and 7 Sun Stations. I can't be arsed creating users everytime I add a new workstation as I already have a massive LAN/WAN to manage.
