Hi!

I'm 16 years old and a recent switcher, and order my 17" MBP the day it came out. (I thought I would treat myself and go for the best first!) (Another excuss to replace my ageing PC)

But about Mac OS X versions, I know about the Panther, Tiger, Leopard etc.

I also know that they are all 10 "point something"

So, my question is: Everything is 10 "point something" e.g. 10.4, 10.3. I assume this is the "Tiger" "Leopard" or whatever difference. I.e. you have to pay for the upgrade.

But then the 10 "point something" "point something's". Are they free? e.g. 10.4.8?? e.g. if I was running 10.4.7, coudl I go to the web and download 10.4.8 or would I have to pay?

Also, between the major revisions, apart from new features, e.g. Time machine, space etc. (in Leopard) what else is there? Is it completely different, or just the same old with more programs?

Cheers!

Dan :)

Mac OS X 10.0 - Puma
Mac OS X 10.1 - Cheetah
Mac OS X 10.2 - Jaguar
Mac OS X 10.3 - Panther
Mac OS X 10.4 - Tiger (current)
Mac OS X 10.5 - Leopard (Spring '07)

When Tiger was released, it was 10.4.0. Usually a few months after, Apple release an update with bugfixes and other improvements. It is then 10.4.1. They are now at 10.4.8. All such updates are free. Jaguar ends at 10.2.7 and Panther ends at 10.3.9 while Tiger is currently at 10.4.8. It is only if you want to upgrade from i.e. Panther to Tiger, that you will have to buy Tiger, for $129. This has been the upgrade price for all versions of Mac OS X. I personally hope Leopard will be $99, but I doubt it.
