My mac will not boot... it gets to the login screen and then freezes and the only thing i can do is force a restart. I've tried repairing the disk and the disk permissions using disk utility and i have tried zapping the PRAM nothing has worked so far also i tried to boot into safe mode and that got to the login screen and froze as well... The mouse is frozen and the keyboard does not work, i can press the power button and the box to restart or shutdown comes up but i cant press any of those options. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Restart your Mac with the CD it came with. Might have to hold down the C key as it restarts. When the CD boots, one menu choice will be Apple Hardware Test. Run it.

So i take it your talking about some other disc than the install disc? Beacuse when i boot to the install disc i do not have that option.

so i cant find that option at all... did run the permissions repair and it came across 4 files that it says it modified but did not repair - is this normal?

the hardware test did not find anything wrong, any other suggestions?
