Mac OSX 10.5 Time Machine Backup to 10.6?

I have a Time Machine Backup from a MacBook that is running Mac OSX 10.5. Can I restore that backup to the same machine, if I were to insert and boot from a Mac OSX 10.6 installation disc?

In other words, backup machine on 10.5, restore to 10.6?
