Mac Phone Call Quality

OK - How's the audio quality? I don't have a built in Mic/Speaker (mini with an old iSight hooked in and external speakers) so people tell me it's not very good. Both ends sound pretty bad.

To make it interesting, Messages screen share audio is clean. Sounds fine.
Seems to be on par with an iMac I used for the last few years.

10.10 final and iOS 8.0.2
