mac 'preview' app and AVI files

Hello,

I'm new to mac,

and was simply wondering if the preview app for mac, will preview an play AVI files like it does with MP4's ?

if they're meant, they're not, but i am using vlc as a default media player, could this be the reason ?

Nope. Preview is only really for images and PDFs.

You can preview video files by pressing the space bar to open Quick Look. This doesn't work with most AVI files though (DivX). It used to, if you installed a QuickTime plugin called Perian. But Mavericks broke that feature.

yeah it plays with the mp4s like you said, agh thats a shame - loads of unattractive vlc thumbnails now Ha
