Mac Pro '08 / iMac 27"

Hi,

I have the early-2008 Mac Pro with the 8800GT video card. Hece I do not have the Mini Displayport needed to connect it directly to an iMac 27" to use it in target display mode, which I want to do.

To make this happen I have a few questions;

- Is the only way to upgrade the video card to the HD 4870?
- Do I still need two keyboards and two mice?
- When switching to target mode, using my Mac Pro on the 27", can I still have the iMac be doing things in the background?

And, finally, I guess another option would be to use the Mac Pro with the 27" in target mode, but only have one keyboard/mouse hooked up to the Mac Pro, and then use screen sharing into the iMac?

There are converters out there, but they run 200 or so.

You can also get a GT120 graphics card. Someone is selling it for 100 in the marketplace.

Question 1:

You can get the Gefen EXT-DVI-2-MDP for $80 from buy.com. That's what I did to hook my 8800GT-equiped Pro to the LED Cinema Display. Works perfectly.

Question 2:

I believe so, unless you use a KVM.

Question 3:

Not sure about that one. Try the iMac sub-forum.
