Hi!
I'm new to the forums, so if I'm doing anything wrong please let me know
So I picked up a Mac Pro 1,1. Someone sold it to me for cheap, came with 2 x 3.0Ghz Quad Core Xeon Processors and a whopping 20gb of RAM! Didn't come with a graphics card though, so I picked up a used GeForce 7300GT.
I threw OS X Leopard on there and it was running perfectly fine. When I came back from work a couple of hours later, it wouldn't start up.
So the current state is this: it powers on, startup light is solid. Fans run but they seems to go quiet a bit, but I don't know if that's an issue or not...No startup chime and no video output. Can't reset the NVRAM on the keyboard because USB doesn't work. The mouse turns on though..
I SMC reset it both ways, via power cable and via button on the motherboard. I also checked the DIAG_LEDs and only LED 2 and LED 9 are on. The GPU_Present and the Power_Good LEDs are not on, so I'm assuming it's either a motherboard issue (hopefully not) or a PSU issue.
I also disassembled the whole thing, cleaned out all the dust and what not, and added new thermal paste to the processors. I've also tried various power cables and various power outlets with no luck. Also, I've tested the the graphics card in all the pcie slots, results are still the same
I feel like I've tried everything, and I still don't understand how my pc just randomly died on me while I was out for a couple of hours...
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Update: Turned out to be the motherboard. Something was short circuited on there...luckily I picked up a used one for cheap and now I'm back in business!
