Hey,

I know this gets asked a lot but I'd appreciate if someone could help.

I've got a Mac Pro1,1 (Mid 2006) with a 7300GT installed. I want to upgrade the card as cheaply as possible. I've looked on Apple Store and according to reviews/comments the ATI HD 5770 will be compatible, but its £199!? The PC version is only £100.

I know you can flash the ATI 4870, but even this is out dated now? And most of the links on the guides here are dead/the stores don't stock them anymore.

Is it possible to buy a PC version ATI HD 5770 and flash it to work with my Mac Pro?

Cheers.

Yes it is possible to flash a 5770 (just search for the various threads around here for flashing PC cards), but a 4870 is faster in most tasks. Not by much, but they should sell cheaper than the 5770.

Okay! Thanks alot, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing now.

The only other thing that's confusing me slightly is which card? There's many different versions of the Sapphire HD 5770. I've had a look on Amazon but none of the model numbers match anything on the Compatibility Overview

Will any of the Sapphire HD 5770s work or only the mentioned model numbers?

Cheers/
