Hey Everyone!
For the last few hours I've been attempting to get a Mac Pro 1,1. Dual Xeon Dual 3.0Ghz to run my fancy new GPU.
I picked this machine up today from a reseller... It's in almost perfect condition! All other parts (SSD, HDD, GTX 960) were ordered in new.
I ended up using Pike's method for installing Yosemite, it worked an absolute charm! However, it took me may reinstalls to realise that the 7300 GT was causing a bunch of issue on login.
8 reinstalls later I stumbled across a post mentioning how to patch the nvidia drivers to bypass the version check. Since this machine is a Mac Pro 1,1 (and not a 3,1 or 4,1) Nvidia do not release a "compatible" driver set for it.
I ended up referring to step 25 of this post Patching the Yosemite 10.10 version of the Nvidia Web Drivers on my main machine (a rMBP Late 2013 15")
I could have used the Lion install on an old 250GB for this but it was faster to prepare my install media (USB 3) and packages on my main machine.
The card I'm currently using is a Zotac GTX 960.
I've run the Heaven benchmark (1680x1050, Cinema Display) and I'm getting a score of 1062, with an average fps of 42.2, min of 15 FPS and max of 87.8. This is on Ultra with no AA
I'll update this post with more benchmarks / info depending on the response! I'll be verifying if all the outputs work tomorrow evening (currently using displayport, however a HDMI & 3 displayport 1.2 ports are present
)
Thanks for being an amazing community... I've trawled through a lot of posts today to get this running (but I'm happy I did!)
