Hi,

I'm definitely purchasing the next generation Mac Pro.
If it comes out, we are expecting it to carry a Sandy Bridge Xeon processor.
We know Ivy Bridge consumer CPU's will be available shortly, and likely Ivy Bridge Xeons will come out next year.

I think a Sandy Bridge Xeon will fit my needs quite well for the next few years, however can we expect the CPU to be user replaceable with a firmware upgrade just like the 2009 & 2010 Mac Pro's?
I guess no one really knows for sure, but I've read that some of the Sandy Bridge Extreme motherboards for PC's will be compatible with Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Does anyone know or provide a link about Sandy Bridge - Ivy Bridge Xeon compatibility?

Thanks

LGA 1155 boards need updating to run Ivy Bridge processors, so one could assume the 2012 Mac Pros will too.

You can't really expect much from Apple, but sure it may be possible you will be able to update firmware again like people are doing to 2009 Mac Pros.
