AFAIK LRDIMM is not supported by MacPro6,1, even Intel only supports it on some very specific server processors:

Intel is now hidding old datasheets, this is the from the WaybackMachine:

Page 17:
LRDIMM x4, x8 (2-Gb and 4-Gb only) LR-DIMMs are supported only on server specific processors (Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v2 and E5-4600 v2 product families). LR-DIMMs are not supported in workstation specific SKUs such as the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-1600 v2 product family.

I already tested this ~ 1 year back because i had 2,56TB DDR3 RAM left of my previous cluster in my homelab.
Dozens of LR and R variants, different timings, manufacturers, speeds, classifications, sizings aso.
I can confirm that LR dimms won't work in a 6,1!
Bacause as already stated in #2, and in terms of their mechanical volume.
Double sided and passive cooled LR dimms have their own logic integrated and are made for high performace infrastructure.
Also because of that they run hotter. The width of this LR dimms prohibid for example to mount two modules side by side in their slot inside the 6,1.
At the very end you cannot push the clamp without breaking it to secure the dimm connection.
The system won't come up, it just does nothing.
LR dimms are just compatible to specific enterprise chipset/CPU/logic board combinations.
And as we all know more than 64GB RAM (-> 128GB) is slower inside this architecture.
This has already been discussed and measured on several boards in the past years.
