Hi,

I have a 2013 Macpro 6core with 256 GB of storage. I think of replacing the 256 with a 512 one. Can you advise on where I should buy SSD from? I was thinking about buying one off eBay. I’m comfortable with a little thinkering to install SSD. I’ve seen others install faster drives that require a special adapter. Any help is appreciated

Don't know much about used Apple SSDs on Ebay, but Apple has 2 or 3 different custom interfaces so you have to get a blade pulled from one of the compatible Macs. This guide is helpful.

Only two vendors I'm aware of selling new SSDs with compatible interface are Trans Intl Super Blade and OWC Aura SSD.

Saw a thread about M.2 Adapters, but if I recall correctly it seems these were unreliable, which would be completely unacceptable to me for a storage device.

One more option is the AngelShark carrier board, which allows you to use your original Apple SSD plus two additional M.2 SSDs, all internally. It is very expensive though. This is one of those things were they don't even show the price because if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
