Hi All,
I have just started playing with my second Mac pro 3.1, (within a few months). I did own an iMac some years back, but need windows for the software I run, or the FREE software I run.

This Mac only seems to have a line input which is not sensitive enough for a MIC, so I tried an home made mic amp without any success, perhaps a cheap capacitor mic would do the job, battery powered.

It also seems that the front head-phone socket fails to work too, with or without the back speaker socket being used.

Some of you must SKYPE (I'm not shouting?) lets hear what you do and use.

Regards

Mel.

The only solution I found for this case is to buy a USB dongle with Mic/Line IN.
I bought one from eBay some months ago.

The Mac Pro's Line/Mic in does not work like on PCs for example.

Here is what I bought and works like a charm.

I hope this helps.
Cheers.

Hi VAGdesign,
Thanks for your reply! I did think of a USB Headphone/mic set up, but didn't know if that would work, or if there were drivers, etc for the Mac???

That looks like just what I need and it's good to hear from someone who is using the device..

For a couple of £ you can't go wrong!! I'll order it now.

Regards, and thanks.

Hi VAGDesign,
Well it arrived today and works fine, you just have to set Skype up to use it, to do the job. A cheap and simple way to get over the problem.

Thanks again, regards.
