Hello everyone, I’ve been trying to do some upgrades on my 4,1 Mac Pro recently. I upgraded the firmware to 5,1 no problem and then started upgrading the CPUs. I took out the old de-lidded ones and put in new lidded X5675s following a guide by jensd_be. However upon trying to boot it first gave OVRTMP issues which I fixed by tightening and loosening the heat sinks. However, upon booting it kernel panicked and I’m lost as to what to do from here.

Lidded Xeons with a dual CPU tray early-2009 is asking for real trouble, a lot of times you end with damaged CPU sockets. Did you inspected the pins on the socket?

Did you installed the factory unlidded Xeons to see if macOS boots again?

I have not, will check though thanks, the guy in the video did it fine and I thought that it should work but I guess not.

If you searched here, you would find dozens of dead CPU trays after lidded Xeons were installed, not worth the risk.
