Hi,

This is my first post on here, I hope you can help me.

I have a Mac Pro 4.1 2.66GHz quad core. Is it as simple to convert this machine to an 8 core to buy and 8 core processor board and fit it in to the machine? Or does the main board also need changing?

Thanks for your help.

Mark

This topic has been discussed many times before and this one is a good example. In addition to 2 matching Xeon 5500/5600 processors, you also need to get a 2009 dual-processor tray and two matching heat sink and fan units. Unless you can find them cheap and enjoy challenging work to install two processors on the dual tray, it may be easier just to upgrade to a 6-core W3680 or 3690 after upgrading the firmware to 5,1.
