Here's the story,

Been pulling my hair for weeks.

I'm posting this just in case someone else run into the same issue and keeps getting Kernel Panic and can't get to GUI even though AHT and ASD all passed.

No logs are generated on /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports when checked in single mode.

Goal is to get to at least the GUI and get some diagnostic report to troubleshoot what is causing the panic.

Troubleshooting and googling all day today to see what works and finally got somewhere.

Totally desperate so just kept trying boot-args.

I had my old 10.10 and run into this page https://www.fitzweekly.com/2016/04/hackintosh-boot-flags.html

Booted that to single mode. [BTW using GT-120]

nvram boot-args="-v -x -s -f cpus=1 maxmem=4096 nv_disable=1 -no-zp"

Then I tried booting with another SSD with Sierra I installer from my macbook.

wala I was able to get to gui, I copied High Sierra Installed to the SSD from a usb stick.

Then I tried to run the High Sierra install to update the firmware but nothing was happening it just keep asking for my password got a spinning wheel cursor and just went back to regular pointer and thats it no reboot. I tried a few times and it just keeps repeating.

Rebooted back to 10.10 for some reason single mode on Sierra nvram boot-args does not work.

Anyhow I tried nvram boot-args="-v -x -s -f cpus=1 maxmem=4096 -no-zp" to see if it will still boot, so I rebooted back to SSD and yes it did.

I run the HS installer again and this time it rebooted and I was able to update my firmware to MP51.0089.B00.

I'm now updating to HS.

After I will try to remove all the nvram args and see if it will boot.

UPDATE:

After updating to HS sucessfully, I tried to removed cpus=1 and it panicked.

I added cpus=6 -no-zp and booted ok.

So now suspecting bad CPU.

Planning to upgrade it anyway to a six core x5690/5680 or w3680 etc.

I moved my flashed Sapphire 7950 from my cMP 2,1 and was also able to update the firmware to 144.0.0.0.0 then installed Mojave(upgrade went smoothly, no issues). Also moved and BCM94360CD from cMP2,1 for wireless.

Next project would be the CPU upgrade and perhaps M.2 Samsung EVO 970 Pro.

Happy camper for now as I'm able to revive the cMP.

Will keep updating this thread.

UPDATE:

Installed Opencore and updated to Catalina still have boot-args “cpu=6 -no-zp" again smooth upgrade no issues, no kernel panic.

W3520 was running on 3Core/6Threads. - Seems stable.

UPDATE: 9-28-2020

I was able to get a hold of W3680.

Swapped the CPU and removed boot-args and cleared nvram.

Booted fine and without any issues. MacPro is now running full 6C/12T. As suspected the issue was the old CPU was bad.

TBH I'm failing to see the purpose of this thread.
A description of running hackintosh boot-args on a MP with a natively supported OS to avoid KPs ,is not going to help any reader I'm afraid...
