This is a cMP 4,1 that is now a 5,1 and running Mojave with full handoff support, Watch Unlock etc all functioning. But waking it up from sleep is inconsistent. That is actual sleep, not just screen powered down.
I first noticed when I was unable to wake it up by pressing a key on the (Apple USB) keyboard, as I had always been able to do previously (prior to Mojave). Nothing on the keyboard nor the mouse was able to wake it up. Fearing the worst, I pressed the power button on the front and surprise surprise, it woke up. This at least is consistent. If I cannot wake it from the keyboard or mouse, the front button always works. But which method is required to wake it up is totally inconsistent. Sometimes I need to use the front button, but other times it responds to a keypress on the keyboard and I can determine no reason why it should behave differently.
That's the first oddity.
While getting exasperated over the above wake up problem, I noticed another inexplicable (to me anyway) behaviour of my Mac. Since getting Mojave installed and running, it takes an age to wake up. It used to be almost instant with Sierra, but with Mojave (I skipped High Sierra) there's probably 20 seconds from the keypress to the screen coming alive and showing me the login window, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less, I've not timed it, however it is long enough to get me worried each time that it has in fact hung.
I assumed it was just taking longer to load the Metal driver for the HD7950 card I am now using (with more monitors also) and was prepared to simply put up with it.
However, the wake from sleep issue above has completely blown that theory.
When I cannot wake from sleep by the keyboard and instead have to press the front power button to wake it up, it does so almost instantly, just like it always did before. So whatever is causing the delay when waking it from a keypress, it is obviously nothing fundamental like loading a driver or other system function. Waking it by pressing the front power button proves it can wake up almost instantly.
So some questions for which I could do with some suggestions:-
---
To clarify, the slow wakeup became apparent after the Mojave install but before I changed the BT/WiFi card to support Handoff etc. so that new card is not the cause of the slowness.

- Why does the Mac sometimes fail to wake from a keypress?
- If it does work, why does it take so long?
- How come wakeup is so fast when woken from pressing the front power button?
