Hey fellow Mac Pro enjoyers,
I have purchased myself an trashcan 6.1 Mac Pro, as a companion to my beloved 14 Inch M1 Pro MBP. And so far everything worked well, but today after waking the machine up, it gave me a Kernel Panic Message.

As far, as I can understand this has something to do with the GPUs? As mentioned before, everything seemed to work well, the only graphical issue, I've encountered was that I had some graphical glitches while installing an Ubuntu VM in VMWare. (Maybe due to the heat?)

Now my question is, as I bought this from a seller on Ebay and have a 24-month warranty (Ebay Germany), should I sent it back or keep it and adjust the fan settings?

Thanks in advance! (I hope my english is not that bad 😅)

Long shot, but maybe applies.

One thing that I learned over the years I have a MacPro6,1 is that dust is a major cause of slowdowns and KPs, did you cleaned your Mac Pro with compressed air?

I don't have the knowledge of tsialex for these Mac Pros, and I can't interpret what is the firmware version of the Mac Pro of yours from your listing of panic log.

Apple f*cked up with the firmware thoroughly for couple of years approximately, somethin like three years ago if I remember it right. The machine would kernel panic, especially in sleep, abruptly and inevitably, no matter what. Then they fixed it after all, and the latest firmware is stable. Just recorded over a year of uptime for my tv-set applianced Mac Pro 6,1.

So my guess would be to update the firmware to latest avalable, if it's not the latest for some reason. And if that doesn't work, do the cleaning suggested by tsialex. And maybe, if applicable to you, apply fresh thermal materials to CPU/GPU and for all of it there is to it. It's old hardware after all.

Maybe check the memory errors too. It's ECC RAM, and RAM correctional procedures are highlighted and listed in there too; About this Mac, RAM, there might be a yellow warning triangle of memory errors. Your log does not lean towards that though, just saying.

That's something I considered, but I ended up returning that Mac Pro.
Instead, I bought another one, this time from 2018 (I heard that the GPUs in the later production models are more stable).

I will definitely clean and repaste the new one, though.

Okay, that's good to know. (I didn't know that Apple messed up so hard)

Thankfully here in Germany we have the so-called "Fernabsatzgesetz" ("Distance Selling Act"), which obliges sellers to offer a 14-day right of return.

The new one already arrived and I'm really curious to see if it works better than the old one. (And I will try to upgrade it's firmware, because on the sellers images it was running on Catalina for some reason)

Well I'm not going to try and pretend to understand the pasted technogarble but GPU issues are very high on the list of Trashcan failures.

My tip as a long time owner of one of these would be to install Macs Fan Control or similar on your new one and increase the fan speed from default right away - i.e. monitor the PCIe switch diode (or the CPU) and start with that to prolong your machine's life.
I keep my PCIe diode (hottest sensor of MP under normal operation) under 65 degrees at all times. Seems to have worked out well for the last ... 7 years or so at least. Default on a fresh 2018 system was like 70 degrees out of the box as I recall.

Also if you want to make use of Fernabsatzgesetz: you cannot possibly strip the machine and repaste within those fourteen days or even just update the firmware, can you - all you could do as far as I understand it is to thoroughly test the machine and return if faulty?
