I have an Early 2008 Mac Pro with an NVidia 8800GT connected to an Apple Cinema Display 23". I'd like to get a new 24" Apple LED Display, but it requires a Mini Display Port connector which my 8800GT doesn't have.

I'd like to know if I can purchase either an adapter to connect the new display to the current graphics card, or whether I need to get a new graphics card to do this?

If possible, I'd like to have the setup like this:
- 8800GT connected to current 23" display
- New graphics card (Radeon 4870? It has Mini DisplayPort) connected to new 24" display

Can the Mac Pro handle both of these cards at the same time? Are the two cards going to need to use the same port or something? Does this sound like a feasible situation?

Any help, much appreciated. Thanks!

you can put more than 1 graphics card in the same machine... so you should be able to fit the new card and connect to it the cinema display.

There are adaptors, around 200 bucks.

I would just buy the 4870. Then sell the 8800 to offset the cost.

A cheap way to do it would be to buy a GT120 and use it just for the MDP.

Excellent. Thanks for the ideas, chaps!

It's good to see adapters/converters coming along, but I think I might have to just plump for the Radeon :)
