I have a MacPro (Early 2008) and I haven't had any problems up until about a month ago when one of the front fans (at least I think that's where the noise is originating) started making a whining sound after the system had been running for several hours. Everything is normal within the first few hours of operation, but give it 5 or 6 and the noise starts.

Oddly I can get rid of it by just putting the system into sleep mode and starting it up again immediately, but when the whining fan stops upon sleep/power-off, it makes a high-pitched grinding noise that I can only describe as similar to that stereotypical sound from an action movie when a turbine shuts down :D. Yeah not the most technical way to describe it, but it's really starting to concern me and I'm wondering if the fan motor might be getting ready to bite it. Any advice would be appreciated...I'd really rather avoid having to cart this thing into a Apple store or shipping it out for repair if at all possible.
